An essential element when orienting learners to an online course is sharing some online norms known as netiquette. For newcomers this will head off any potential problems or misunderstandings that could take place in discussion forums. For veterans of online learning it serves as a reminder and an opportunity to discuss possible new norms for the current online course in which they are enrolled.
